Dear Issaquah School District Early Learning Families, We are excited to welcome you to the first of our 2023-2024 in person Family Engagement Series held at Holly Street Early Learning Center on Monday, November 13th at 6:00 p.m. We invite you to join us for this session that will build upon topics discussed in our Zoom night together earlier in October, including relationships and strong routines as a strong foundation, responsive environments, and boosting home-school connections. Families will have opportunities to connect with one another as we discuss and share strategies. Please see attached for the slide deck from the October presentation on building strong foundations. Visual supports and individualized materials supporting this topic will be provided at our in person evening together on 11/13 at 6pm. We will meet at the Holly Street Early Learning Center, across the street from Issaquah Valley Elementary. This is an evening for adults to connect and child care is not provided at this time. The Family Engagement Series focuses on early childhood, from preschool ages through grade three, as we discuss strategies for supporting positive behaviors and independence for all students, including students with disabilities. As we recognize that different formats work for different family needs, we will continue to alternate formats monthly, between Zoom and in person. We will return to our Zoom format with a new topic, Building Upon the Foundations: Behavior as Communication, in December. More information to come.

Join The Arc of King County’s Rachel Nemhauser, Community and Family Support Program Manager, and Jae Kim, MSW, Information and Resource Coordinator, for an exploration of services available in King County and Washington State for people covering the array of community resources for students with Developmental Disabilities and their families. This informative and informal conversation is a great opportunity to find out what help is available, and to get your questions answered regarding resources through ARC, local community resources and DDA (waivers", respite care, therapies, behavior support, etc).

There are three Phases of Family Life, based on age, for a child with special needs: Pre-Guardianship, Post-Guardianship, and Independent Living. Each phase has its own unique financial and legal challenges. However, with proper planning, parents/guardians can hopefully find peace, knowing that their child’s financial well-being is protected throughout their life span as well as in the event of an unforeseen life change. We will discuss the resources available to you and have an open conversation where you can ask questions and/or share life experiences. Free to all who would like to join.

Sunny Hills is hosting a "Keep Active and Diaper Drive" where we will be collecting new and gently used much-needed items for KidVantage (formerly known as Eastside Baby Corner). These items will help kids stay busily engaged during this cold winter weather. See below for a list of donations we will be collecting. A collection bin will be placed inside of the school on both floors. The drive will run from Feb. 1 - Feb. 28 . Thank you for any support you can give to this much-needed organization!

Please contact me directly and not your child's teacher or the office. [email protected] Mrs. Grasso has 20 spots open for this session, and it is first come first serve. This is a six-week art club. She will offer a second session later in the year. Students can come directly to Mrs. Grasso's classroom after school on Tuesdays if they are signed up, but parents must be able to pick up students in front of school at 4:45. Eager Reader is back this year and set to begin on Wednesday, January 11. Information from PTA was shared to go out to students last week.
